Today’s society is becoming more aware of the need to take care of the environment and find more environment-friendly options when choosing materials.

As far as wood is concerned, not only does this affect our behaviour as citizens and consumers, but it also affects new legislative initiatives and company strategies.

Opting for wood is a way of promoting the environmental, social and economic benefits of trees within the sustainable management of forests and the life cycle of their products.

In this sense, the General State Budget Bill for 2012 has declared the “A Tree is Life” project (promoted by CONFEMADERA) to be an event of exceptional public interest.

Companies sponsoring this project and providing information on it will receive significant tax relief through their corporation tax, in accordance with the Patronage Law. “A Tree is Life” can also help companies that develop activities related to social responsibility to honour their commitments.

The project’s aims are to plant 10 million trees, promote sustainable forest management, contribute to reducing climate change and use promotional activities to consolidate the wood sector, since it is still a key to the economy and employment situation in Spain, especially in rural areas.

Due to the fact that trees store CO2, the “A Tree is Life” project will generate savings of emission rights for Spain that are equivalent to 2.2 million tons of CO2 over a period of 40 years.
