| FEDEMCO holds its General Assembly for 2012 |

The Federation informed members of the activities that had been carried out regarding quality, the environment, marketing and communication.
FEDEMCO’s Ordinary General Assembly for 2012 was held on Wednesday 23rd May in Valencia, in the presence of the president Bernardo Lorente and the executive committee. A large group of members belonging to the value chain of wooden crates and packaging and their suppliers (timber, plywood boards, machinery, etc.) attended the lunch that followed.
The Activities Report for 2011 was submitted (which can now be consulted through the website www.fedemco.com) as well as the development plan for 2012, and other topical issues were discussed.
Quality and Environment
Work carried out by FEDEMCO in 2011 has been varied, but the Assembly emphasized the work that will continue into 2012 such as organizing the FEFPEB conference for 2012 (in Valencia); work concerning the monitoring and probable review of the ISPM-15 phytosanitary international standard in Spain; the opportunity to use the “FEDEMCO-GHMP” system as a tool for compliance to good hygiene and manufacturing practices; and the implications of the new legislation on due diligence (the legality of the origin of wood) for the sector.
The director of FEDEMCO, Fernando Trénor, outlined the progress that has been made with the organization of the conference to be held next October in Valencia by FEFPEB the European organization of employers’ representatives, including the development of the website www.fefpebcongress2012.es, promotion and sponsorship, and the preliminary agenda for visits to companies and lectures.
Regarding the ISPM-15 international standard, he briefly outlined the current situation in Spain and Europe as far as plant health for wood is concerned, in addition to the changes envisaged for this year as part of the ISPM-15 Programme for agriculture. He also drew attention to the fact that European regulations on due diligence will come into force in 2013, making traceability of the legal origin of wood compulsory.
Marketing and Communication
On the other hand, Roberto García (head of Marketing at FEDEMCO) informed those present of the promotion work that had been carried out for the sector, companies and products during 2011, and in particular the impact they have had on generating trade. He also talked about the press pack, the new product catalogue, and FEDEMCO attending the FRUIT ATTRACTION 2011 and FRUIT LOGISTICA 2011 trade fairs in addition to the recent HISPACK 2012 trade fair in Barcelona.
He also presented the conclusions of the sectorial report on wooden crates for 2011, emphasizing an improvement in the production and turnover of members of the Federation, and the positive development of the different formats.
